I’m working on a personal project – or trying to. And in doing so I need to scan a bunch of stuff I wrote years ago so that I can OCR (that’s optical character recognition) into text to save retyping. That was working fabulously during the day on a weekend – but try to get a little personal work done after hours on a work night? Forget it – when you most need techology to work it doesn’t. When the project is due, the hour is late, the clock is ticking like ringing in your ears, when that all important speech or presentation is minutes away - when you most need technology to work it doesn’t. Not yet – not decades into the technological revolution.
So instead I sit here venting – for a moment – while I gather the will to manually re-type documents from years gone by. Documents typed on an ancient IBM Selectric typewriter. Now that technology worked.
For the record the culprit here is either an HP Photosmart C4580 inkjet printer that I specifically purchased because it has built-in wireless networking, or my Windows Vista PC. I could narrow down which by rebooting everything but fuck that – reboots take too long.
